More room to build
This board has 25 cells instead of 16. Empty space can make early planning more forgiving, but the board can still fill up.
The same merge rule
Matching values merge once per move. Each successful move adds one new tile. Reaching 2048 opens the option to keep playing.
Controls for any screen
Use arrow keys or WASD while the board is focused, swipe across it on touchscreens, or use the four visible direction buttons.
Planning on a 5×5 board
Nine extra cells let you make small pairs away from your largest tile. Try keeping one edge ordered instead of filling every empty cell with unrelated values.
Each valid directional move still adds only one new tile, regardless of board size. Larger boards can stay open longer, but a full grid with no equal horizontal or vertical neighbors still ends the game.
Choose your next challenge
Compare all 2048 board sizes or return to classic 4×4 2048 for a smaller grid. If you want to replay a choice instead of changing the size, use practice mode with undo. The 2048 corner and empty-space strategies also apply to larger boards.
What changes from classic 4×4?
This 5×5 grid contains 25 cells, 9 more than classic. The first target is still 2048 here; the board size does not raise it to 4096 or 8192. You can continue after winning. There is no undo in this mode, and its saved board and best score are separate from the other sizes.
A five-cell row can hold one more value than a classic row. Before moving horizontally, check the fifth cell as well as the four you may be used to watching.
